22nd Annual Allardt Great Pumpkin Festival and Weigh-off, Saturday, October 5

 

Allardt's 22nd Annual Great Pumpkin Festival and Weigh-off is set for Saturday, October 5, 2013. (One day only.) Food and crafts vendors will be set up in Allardt's Bruno Gernt Park all day. (Allardt is in the Central Time Zone.)

Pre-Festival Event ­ Pumpkin Festival Beauty Pageant, Saturday, September 28 - 9:00 a.m. ­ 8:30 p.m. at York Institute Auditorium, Jamestown, Tennessee. This event is one of the premier beauty pageants in Middle Tennessee. It is open to any age-appropriate individuals. Entry Fee $25/$5 Photogenic. Return Entry Form and fee to Neat Repeats by Thursday, September 27 at 3:00 p.m. or mail to 1303 Hensley Road, Jamestown, TN 38556 by September 24. Pumpkin Run - Saturday, Oct. 5. Registration 7 to 7:45 a.m. at Allardt School with start time at 8 a.m. Categories of entry are 10K run, 5K run, 3K, and 1 mile Fun Run. Entry fee is $15 for the 10k, 5K, and 3k, and $5 for the 1 mile Fun Run. (Family rate three or more entries $40 total). Sponsored by York Skills USA and Clarkrange Drug Center. Festival Kick-off Ceremonies ­ Saturday, Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. at Allardt City Hall. This year's Great Pumpkin Festival King and Queen will be announced along with presentation of Pumpkin Festival Beauty Contest winners.

Children's Costume Contest - 10 a.m. Saturday on stage at City Hall lawn. Registration at 9:30 a.m. Categories: Ages 0-2 years; 3-5 years; 6-8 years; 9-12 years; and group. Any costume theme acceptable. No live animals, please. Sponsored by Progressive Savings Bank.

Weigh-Off of Pumpkins and Other Vegetables - Saturday, Oct. 5. Register your pumpkins, squash, watermelons, and other vegetables from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the Sandy's Diner building, the former site of Allardt Express Market. Entry fee $10. The actual weigh-off will take place there between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. 2013 prizes revert to original Allardt Weigh-off prizes.
Pumpkins- First place - $500 (2nd ­ 5th place ­ $300, $200, $100, $50)
Watermelons - First place - $400 (2nd ­ 5th place ­ $250, $100, $50, $25)
Green Squash -First place - $300 (2nd ­ 5th place ­ $200, $100, $50, $25)
Prettiest Pumpkin - $100

Clyde and Zelia Stephens Memorial Auto Show and the Motorcycle Show - Both presented by the Push Rods Car Club (Bernie Murphy 931-879-4667). Registration Saturday from 8 a.m. ­ noon at the 4-Way Stop in Allardt. $10 registration fee. Bernie Murphy's webpage and more info: www.under1981.com/CARSHOW.html. Two Pumpkin Queens Choice Trophy & $100 Cash. Sponsored by Dave Kirk Automotive, Crossville. Dash plaques to the first 250. Sponsored by Delk Equipment, Jamestown. Several $20 CASH giveaways for show participants. Awards and all prizes presented day of show registration only. Swap meet spaces (auto related items only) 15X20 - $20. ALL cars, trucks, motorcycles and rat rods welcome.

Please bring four cans of food for a special drawing for a NEW 32-inch LCD HDTV to benefit the Fentress County Food Bank. Fifty percent of the proceeds from this show goes to the Fentress County Kids Christmas Shopping Spree. Last year we gave away a new TV and over $2500 in door prizes! Bernie says, "Don't miss the fun this year and bring your friends!" Festival goers always look forward to seeing the auto show entries in our 3 p.m. Pumpkin Festival parade.

Antique Tractor Show - Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Gernt Lumber Yard behind Allardt Land Company. Coordinators Bryan Edwards (931-704-1241) and Dustin Garrett (931-397-2546) in charge. Participants will receive commemorative plaques or trophies.

Pumpkin Festival Parade featuring Oneida High School Marching Band - 3 p.m., Saturday. Call Tammy Smith at 931-879-7919 to register and for additional information. This year's parade will feature the Oneida High School Pride of the Tribe Marching Band. Also marching will be York Institute's Drum Line. As usual, parade entries will line up on the Baseline Road. To line up, follow Highway 52 E from Allardt past the orange water tower to the Les Franklin Road. Turn left at the Les Franklin Road. Then enter the Baseline Road from the Les Franklin Road only. The deadline for entries is noon Thursday, Sept. 26.

Entertainment ­ A variety of singers and musicians on stage at City Hall beginning at 12:30 p.m. William Bilbrey, Entertainment Chairman.

Crafts and Food Vendors - Bruno Gernt Park, all day Saturday. All types of handmade crafts, jewelry, dolls, wood crafts, floral crafts, quilts, oil paintings, wall hangings, honey, T-shirts, Christmas items, ornaments, yard art, ceramics, baskets, wooden toys, homemade goodies. Hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn, homemade desserts, ice cream, and specialty foods. (All vendors not set up in the park and who have not paid the fee must purchase a vendor's permit for $50 at Allardt City Hall and keep it at their site during the festival.)
