2007 Allardt Pumpkin Weigh-off Billy Burton of Nancy, KY , wins Oct. 6, 2007, pumpkin weigh-off with his entry weighing 1,112 lbs., the largest ever weighed in Allardt, breaking last year's record. (Burton's pumpkin set a new Kentucky state record when it was previously weighed and certified at 1,126 lbs.)

Wallace Simmons of Canton, NC, broke the previous festival record with a pumpkin weighing 854 lbs. Gary Volkenand of Allardt broke the Tennessee state record with his second place pumpkin weighing 841 lbs. Chris Kent of Sevierville, Tenn., placed third with his 789 lb. pumpkin, making him state record holder for only 15 minutes until the Volkenand pumpkin was weighed in. The late Jim Asberry of Allardt held the previous Tennessee state record of 716.5 lbs.

2003 First Place Winners

  • 2003 winning pumpkin was 817 pounds, grown by Wallace Simmons of Canton, NC.
  • First place watermelon was 213 pounds, grown by the Bertram family of Ashland City, Tenn.
  • First place green squash was 590 pounds, grown by Gail Newson of Pinnacle, NC.
  • Total of 24 giant pumpkins entered in the 2003 weigh-off.

    2002 weigh-off winner Steve Cline of Bluefield, West Virginia, with a pumpkin weighing 790 lbs. (then a West Virginia state record).

    The year 2001's top honors went to Gail Newson of King, NC, for his 566-pound giant pumpkin.

    Also Joe Miley of Odon, Indiana, took first place in the Giant Green Squash category for his entry of 578 pounds.


    The year 2000's top honors went to Mary Simmons of Canton, NC, for her 755-pound giant pumpkin.
